The name of this popular UWS cafe is derived from the black press, a group of publications that spread achievements and ideas within underrepresented communities. effectively share valuable information with communities excluded from mainstream media.

Originally started as a French bakery and cafe in Soho, but quickly became famous for its perfectly executed baked goods. But what really put them on the map was that Oprah listed her Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookie as one of her favorite things.

I never miss an opportunity to order the quiche, the chocolate croissant, and their famous macadamia nut cookie. plus, coffee is always great!

I originally stumbled across plows while looking for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Intrigued by the little shop, I was completely blown away by my American coffee and soon realized they serve some of the best coffee in the upper west side cafe.

roasting its own coffee beans and offering a well-selected menu of expertly crafted beverages, this quaint uws is well worth a visit. they also serve well cuit baked goods, which are some of the best in new york.

be sure to stop by the cathedral of st. john the divine while you are in the area, it is the fifth largest church in the world and the architecture is impressive.

coffee joe

joe coffee company offers some of the best coffee on the upper west side. the cafes have a few tables but feel more suited to a takeaway due to their small size. however, I’d be damned if I didn’t mention the phenomenal coffee. it’s consistently smooth so it always hits the spot and I’m not the only one who thinks so.

by contrast, joe’s spread like wildfire and has a ton of locations all over town. but it’s not hard to see why: the atmosphere is welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed, and the coffee exceptional. heck i would take the metro to this gem but luckily i don’t have to because they have great cafe on the uws.

danny meyer, the mastermind behind shake shack, opened daily provisions and now boasts two locations (union square and upper west side, soon west village). most people come to this cute upper west side bakery for the fritters and come back to try everything else on the menu.

but the tasty bites isn’t where the magic stops, they use joe’s coffee beans and make some of the best coffee on the upper west side.
